In the past the only way to replace missing teeth were with fixed bridges, which are destructive to neighboring teeth, and often collect food and bacteria under them, or with removable devices that never feel quite as secure as natural teeth.
Thankfully, dental implants are becoming more easily available, and can solve many if not all the problems listed above.
